What We Should Do: Five Habits

From this entire discussion, I've taken away five practical lessons that can help all of us.
1. Pause before you share. If a video or news item triggers intense emotion in you — anger, fear, excitement — that is exactly the moment to be most careful. Fake content is deliberately designed to provoke emotion. Just 30 seconds of pause can prevent many mistakes.
2. "Skepticism" and "distrust" are not the same thing. Assuming everything is fake is also a trap — remember, that's exactly how the liar's dividend gets exploited. Our goal should be to verify and then believe, not to distrust everything wholesale.
3. Build the habit of checking sources. Who is saying it? When was it said? Has anyone else confirmed it? — Turn these three questions into a habit, and most misinformation will expose itself.
